I can’t be sure exactly what the magic dollar figure is that would purchase superior performance from a one-box CD player. But I’ll say that I wouldn’t be surprised if it fell somewhere between $3000 and $5000. Should you find a better player for $1,895, a MacMini with Streamer+ and FrontRow remote still would be cheaper and light years more convenient. Hence it takes even less than half a brain to pronounce the High Resolution Technologies Streamer+ a sure-fire winner.

SS: Why and how did High Resolution Technologies come about?

KH: I think you already know that High Resolution Technologies is collaboration between Michael Hobson and myself. Michael and I have worked together on a number of projects over the years. We collaborated on things like the original Classic DAD release (PCM DVD discs) and specialized hardware and software solutions for the premastering and disc authoring industries. We also worked on the HDAD series of DVD-A/V discs. This latest collaboration is a continuation of the our past efforts to bring higher quality to the digital audio experience, now applied to computers which are quickly becoming mass-storage music jukeboxes

Positive vibrations

These are two excellent products. The standard Music Streamer makes a big improvement over the typical analog output of a computer. For lower-end hi-fi systems it makes a big difference for a small amount of money. Highly recommended.The Music Streamer + takes sound to another level. It competes – successfully – with the sound quality of CD players costing many times its $650 price tag. Very highly recommended for people serious abut music server sound.
